WMC MAKES 30 SEIZURES, ITEMS WORTH #747.2B IN 6 MONTHS.

The Western Marine Command, a waterways anti-smuggling Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has made public its six months performance from January to June.

The Command in its very focused war against persistent acts of smuggling made a total of 30 seizures from January to June, 2021 with Total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Seven Hundred and Forty Seven Million, Two Hundred and Two Thousand Naira (#747,202,000.00) only.

The unprecedented seizures were made as a result of the strategies put in place in terms of 24 hour patrol, capacity building, surveillance, intelligence gathering and determination of operatives in making the waterways unbearable for smugglers.

In a statement released by the Command through ASC1 Suleiman, Isa, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, it says that “These seizures are strong indications that the operatives of the Command are combat-ready in policing and enforcing the Federal Government Fiscal Policies
despite all odds”. PRO Isa added that “Consequent upon the above, the Ag. Customs Area Controller (CAC) in person of Deputy Comptroller Enonche Ochiba commends the Officers/Men of the Command for achieving these feats. He appreciates the CGC and his management team for the motivation and support given to the Command leading to seamless execution of it’s statutory responsibilities”.

In the statement, the Ag. CAC urges all stakeholders and well meaning Nigerians to support the Command in providing information that will aid its performance. The Acting CAC also enjoins lawabiding citizens to go about their legitimate businesses in accordance with the laws of the land as the target is always on economic saboteurs/daredevil smugglers.

The statement also revealed that Ag. CAC Enonche Ochiba took over the mantle of leadership of WMC on the 5 July 2021 and that before his posting as Ag. CAC WMC; he was the Ag. CAC Bauchi/Gombe Area Command with Headquarters in Bauchi.

The Ag. CAC to also in the statement registers his deep heartfelt appreciation to the
Gentlemen of the press for their sustained determination towards disseminating
information relating to anti-smuggling drive of the Service and further dissuading
members of the public on the inherent dangers of smuggling on social and economic
stability of Nigeria.
