The conflict that existed between the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) both which were members of the Council Of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations which eventually led to the withdraw of MWUN from COMTUA may have become irreparable. This is because the withdrawal letter which was written on the 23rd of June this year had outlined part of its grievances for opting out of the Association as frivolous Petition by NURTW against the members of MWUN which led to the arrest of members thereby causing them serious embarrassment and the peddling of falsehood against members of MWUN.

Adeyinka Aroyewun,
NOS COMTUA

It will be noted that about three weeks ago, the media was awash with stories about the withdrawal of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria from the Council Of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations and this brought about a lot of anxiety in the maritime sector over the fate of members and their interest because of the seemingly volatile nature of the transport subsector within the industry.

In a letter exclusively obtained by this online news media, COMTUA disclosed that it has accepted the withdrawal of MWUN from the Association and also declared that they shall look into the complaints that led to their withdrawal. COMTUA also noted that all the contributions of MWUN in the course of their collaboration are appreciated and noted, but as the letter of withdrawal kept on mistakenly referring to COMTUA as the Council Of Maritime Trade Unions and Associations, COMTUA wishes to state the fact right by educating MWUN that COMTUA means the Council Of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations.

In the acceptance letter signed by the National Organising Secretary, Mr. Adeyinka Aroyewun and as authorised by the National President, Otunba Olaleye Thompson, COMTUA wishes MWUN good luck in their future endeavours.
