The national president of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Chief Tochukwu Ezisi has declared that the promise he made upon being sworn in November 2021 to have a new befitting national secretariat built for the Association will be achieved. Chief Ezisi made the assertion that he will make sure that at least a landed property that will house the edifice shall be acquired within his first tenure as the president of the association after the presentation and swearing in of the 6th national standing committee and the formation of the 6th national executive committee at the NAGAFF secretariat in Apapa yesterday.

In a paper presentation before the Inauguration, Chief Ezisi paid tribute to “All those who have been involved and contributed their quota to the development of NAGAFF since inception; because what we see in NAGAFF today is a testament to their hard work. I assure you in unequivocal terms that my administration is determined to uphold, protect and consolidate on the good legacies of all the past presidents of our enviable Association”. The president vowed to uphold the core values of the association in entrenching professionalism in the industry. He also added that “The inauguration is in line with the supreme constitution of NAGAFF as entrenched in chapter 6, Part C, section 41, subsection 2 (NEC) which stressed that the national executive council (NEC) shall be the supreme governing body of the association with binding powers on all and that the NEC shall consist of the national president, all the elected national officers, all national standing committee officers and chairmen and secretaries of all chapters”.

The president reminded all the newly sworn in officers that it is only teamwork that can make the dream work and that they should not work alone as he quoted Steve Jobs’ famous line which says that “The ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do”.

The president while speaking to journalists after the Inauguration continued by saying that his focus is on “Taking the NAGAFF to another level”. He promised to secure a landed property that the permanent secretatariat will be built on within his first tenure as he lauded the performance of NAGAFF at the recently concluded Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) election. Chief Ezisi reechoed NAGAFF’s early desire for having an all inclusive CRFFN board with the proposition to share the seats on the basis of 6,6,1,1,1 among the registered Associations and that even with the way the election was conducted, NAGAFF was able to take most of the seats. On relations with some Government Agencies in the industry, the president said that his committee went into dialogue with the Customs on the issue of the strike action which happened as a fallout of the confusion over the introduction of the vehicle identification number (VIN) valuation as he noted that he believes that strike action is usually not the best option available, but dialogue which he said was what did the magic.

Chief Ezisi said that the operating environment is very difficult for the freight forwarder, but indicated that they will continue to seek the path of dialogue in order to continually sort out issues. He promised that the chapter execute elections will take place by the end of April this year.

The chairman of the board of trustees (BOT) of the association, Chief Chidiebere Enelamah in his own contribution said that “The president of the association is an achiever who hates failure as he urged the committees to follow his lead while doing their duties with diligence and hard work”. He also extolled the values of the founder of the association who is unavoidably absent as he was on his way to the Eastern part of the country. Chief Enelamah admonished the finance committee to put on its thinking cap as he said that no association functions without finance. He concluded by advising all the members to respect their leaders and all constituted authorities.
