A socio-cultural group known as the Urhobo World United Union (UWUU) held its general meeting on Saturday at Palm Groove, Lagos.
The occassion started at about 12.15pm with the chairman of the Lagos chapter of the Union, Chief Richard Odafe Edidjana leading members through the various activities lined up for the day to discuss issues, proffer solutions to problems, give awards, cash gifts and other gift items as well as to discuss the annual general meeting of the UWUU coming up in Warri by November this year.

In his opening address to members the chairman gave tribute to the founding father of the Union and the former interim executive committee members for bequeathing a sound legal framework to the association, helping to keep the Urhobo culture going and keeping the Union’s finances tidy. He though deplored certain individual behaviours that may negatively impact on the Union, but expressed confidence that the question of indiscipline is being tackled by the executive members.
Chief Edidjana spoke about the different welfare programmes that the Union has mapped out including the awards to individuals within the ranks of the Urhobo community in Lagos.

The secretary of the Union, Onome Joy Monije gave an account of the performance of the Union over the past months while the financial secretary also rendered the financial accounts to members. Newly registered members were welcomed and given copies of the constitution while the intending members present were also encouraged to be consistent in attendance preparatory to being registered as members.
The high points of the meeting were the awarding of the past executive members of the association, the back to school project which gave scholarship awards to deserving students in higher institutions to the tune of twenty five thousand naira each to eight (8) students as well as thirty six (36) high quality school bags given to different pupils in different schools.

At the end of the meeting, the chairlady of the Union, Evelyn Okiemute said that part of the day’s activities is meant for members to get to see new members and to plan know the direction of the annual general meeting coming up in November. She encourages new members to come and join the Union.

On his own part, the chairman of UWUU, Chief Edidjana said that the focus group as the Lagos chapter of the Union is known was basically having its meeting and in addition to that, award some members, launch its back to school programmes with cash and other gifts items to students and also to fine tune the arrangements for the grand event of the AGM that will come up in November in Warri.
