Smuggling of the Federal Government’s heavily subsidised petroleum products across the various Nigerian borders has largely remained inspite of the best efforts of the officers of the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies along the borders. The continuous strengthening of these and other Government agencies will make sure that the war against this illicit trade is firmly won or drastically reduced by the country.

It is worthy of note to say that certain agencies and some of their really dedicated officers are putting in the hard work in order to ensure that this battle is won and that the country becomes better for it. It is also noteworthy here to mention the tireless efforts of the officers at the Seme border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service since Comptroller Dera Nnadi was granted the headship of this Command.
The latest of such effort is the recovery of the capsized boat operated by suspected smugglers transporting fuel in 25 litre Jerry cans along the Seme Border area approaching the Republic of Benin.
As at press time, a combined team of Customs officers assisted by operatives of the Nigerian Navy and other sister agencies have recovered most of the floating jerry cans carrying premium motor spirit (PMS) and the capsized boat has been drawn ashore. The number of Jerry cans carrying the petroleum products are being assembled for counting as at press time.
One of the first seizures made by the very active Comptroller Nnadi in less than two weeks of his resumption of office in January was the impoundment of the sum of Six Million Dollars ($6,000,000.00) which was found to be counterfeit notes.
