The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has in their usual duty of examining containers discovered a 20 foot container laden with 55 cartons of tramadol. This much was revealed by the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Yusuf M. I. during a press briefing at his Command earlier today. It will be recalled that the shameful act of illicit drug importation has been detected on so many occasions by this Command.

The seized Tramadol on display.

CAC Yusuf said that the 1×20 foot container with the number sudu-7568656 had its contents manifested as 272 cartons of stainless steel hotpots and that it was declared as cooking appliances and measuring/checking instruments and furnace burners to evade detection and arrest. He noted that at the point of proper examination with other sister agencies, 55 cartons of tramadol were found to be hidden in some food flasks with each carton containing 50 rolls and each roll containing 10 packs and that each pack contains 10 satchet of the banned substance.

The legal implication of this is that the import contravenes section 46 and 47 of the Customs and Excise Act, cap 45 of the Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.

Comptroller Yusuf calls on all operators in the trade supply chain to ensure obedience to the extant laws of the nation as he implores importers and exporters to acquaint themselves with the relevant import prohibition guidelines in order to save the nation’s economy. He reiterated the Command’s committment and resilience towards making sure that the importation of illicit items are promptly detected as he seeks the cooperation of all and sundry.
