There is a gathering cloud of uncertainty and somewhat palpable atmosphere as confrontation brews between the 100% Compliance Team of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) on one side and operators of the Clarion Bonded Terminal at Alakija, Lagos on the other side.

The crux of the matter is the alleged seizure or rather the withholding of 14 vehicles since July 2021, purported to have had duty and other charges paid on them and properly cleared by members as they say that the reasons for the seizure of the vehicles are not their fault.

In a letter to the Controller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd), and attentioned to the Deputy Controller General of Customs, Trade and Tariff, the team through its national coordinator, Mr. Tanko Yusuf said that rather than investigate the alleged disappearance of 19 containers without the normal process of paying the duty, the management of Clarion Terminal limited has resorted to blackmail and victimisation by withholding the said 14 vehicles.

They noted that the containers’ disappearance was hatched by the staff of Clarion Terminal limited and the consignee and that no terminal delivery order was issued on any of the 19 containers and therefore concludes that the Terminal is an economic risk to the federal government.

The letter therefore calls on the CGC to prevail on the Clarion Terminal limited to release the mentioned 14 vehicles and also to investigate the disappearance of the 19 containers from the Terminal as the containers numbers were listed in the letter.
