The management of Portbizness on radio, a social programme designed to create awareness on all activities within and around the maritime sector of the economy has celebrated the 7th year anniversary of the existence of the radio show with a lecture. In a welcome address by the organiser and the presenter of the radio programme, James Shodiya, he noted that the theme of the lecture is : The covid-19 challenges: Which way forward for Nigeria’s transport industry. He said that this question is relevant in order to chart a way forward for the Nigerian economy which is currently suffering some setbacks due to the pandemic..
On his part, the present of Association of maritime transport owners , Chief Remi Ogungbe stated that the problems in the transportation business especially in the maritime sector has remained because the right actions have not been taken by the government.
While delivering his lecture on the occasion, the president of the African professional freight forwarders and logistics operators of Nigeria, Chief Frank Ogunojemite said that despite the reforms in the maritime sector, the Port operations and service delivery are still considered to be inefficient and unattractive to shippers due to huge revenue losses.
On his part, Captain Alfred Oniye, a merchant seafarer noted that even though water transportation controls most of the movement of goods around the world, it sadly has not been properly developed in Nigeria.
The lecturers agreed that the government needs to act in many more decisive ways to improve the transportation of goods and services in and around the country.
