The imbroglio that has been threatening to break the ranks of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) that also culminated in the locking up of the secretariat for the second time in two years may have cooled a bit with the reopening of the secretariat owing to the instruction of the Inspector General of Police.

The president of the association, Hon. Iju Tony Nwabunike has in a press release paid tribute to his loyal team as well as the IGP for their steadfastness and sense of of propriety.

The ANLCA president stated that “We are ever committed to the survival, growth and development of ANLCA and will not betray the mandate given us to lead it which expires in April 2023. Recall that after an attack on our secretariat on October 6, 2020 by hoodlums armed with guns, cutlasses, charms and other dangerous items, we lost over N20 million worth of property. Our members and secretariat staff on ground were beaten up and harassed by hired thugs in this incident”.

Our investigation shows that in the most recent attack, 4 cars had their tyres completely damaged, 2 other cars had their batteries stolen, glass doors and windows were shattered, a number of 12″ by 20″ framed pictures were stolen, a 54″ flat screen television was totally damaged, a laptop was also stolen, vital documents were taken away and mostly from the office of the secretary and other extensive damages were recorded.

Hon. Nwabunike made reference to the biblical story of Solomon of making a wise judgement when two women came crying to the king about who was the real mother of the living child and concluded that “There is no leadership tussle in ANLCA. The real leader and recognised group that would never want ANLCA destroyed are known. We won’t watch our dear association destroyed while we fold our hands. Whatever lawful means available to seek redress and get justice is what we will perpetually be committed to”, the president said.

The president also made reference to the efforts of the federal government towards rebuilding the national economy with the introduction of different policies and programmes and also made reference to the misunderstanding that stems from the introduction of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) as he urged all members to be law abiding and report any kind of attack at the secretariat to the police.

The president concluded with these words “Our secretariat is open and functioning for your use and operation while as leaders we keep working towards a more peaceful and orderly body”.
