The dark clouds of uncertainty that has characterised the leadership structure within the ranks of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) over the past four years seems to be rapidly giving way to bright sunshine as the last chapter of the association within the western zone that hitherto proved problematic has had its election conducted and a new executive inaugurated.

The Murtala Mohammed Airport Cargo chapter of the association had been locked in a battle with members resorting to all manner of litigations and caretaker committees then instituted at various points to guide this chapter of the Association.

Prince Adewusi Bamgbala left and Mr. Kehinde Akintola the outgoing chairman at the occassion.

In the light of the resolutions reached by the national executive committee of the association led by Hon. Iju Tony Nwabunike, an election was conducted on Saturday, the 15th of this month. The newly elected members as a result of that election were inaugurated today and they are Prince Bamigbala A. Adewusi as chairman, Ben Davies Nwachukwunenye vice chairman, Sylvester Osa-Iyamu secretary, Ifeanyi Valentine Lekwauwa treasurer, Joseph Folorunsho Gbenle financial secretary, Ositadi Chinedu Okere assistant secretary and Victor Uzoma Mmadike as the public relations officer.

The handover ceremony.

The inauguration took place at the chapter secretariat along the International Airport road this afternoon. At the event representatives of the MMAC Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, the Police, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) were all at the occassion. The representatives all paid glowing tributes to the immediate past caretaker committee chairman, Mr. Kehinde Akintola who was on hand to perform the handover ceremony. They also advised the new executive members to borrow a leaf from the leadership style of Mr. Akintola under whose tenure the new chairman served as vice chairman.

In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn in chairman, Prince Adewusi Bamgbala said that “Leadership is all about sharing visions and responsibilities and we are fully aware that there is need for us all to come together to confront the common challenges facing our profession therefore I call on all members with special appeal to those on the opposition camps before the election to bury the hatchet and let us work together as one big family”.

After the handover ceremony, the outgoing caretaker committee chairman, Mr. Akintola in an interview advised the new chairman to operate an open door policy, he also advised members to give the new chairman the kind of total support that he enjoyed during his tenure.

A former chairman of the chapter, Mr. Alloy Igwe on his part advised the new chairman to act conciliatorily towards every member including those who opposed his election.
