In solidarity with the new catch phrase ‘Women helping women’ and the urge to have more of the female gender participate in eonomic and political ventures, the Tin Can Island Chapter public relations officer of the Association of Nigerian Licenced Clearing Agents (ANLCA), Onome Joy Monije has hailed the recent appointment and the subsequent performance of Mrs. Chinyere Uromta as the acting Register of the Council for the Registeration of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
Ms. Monije said while speaking with us that Mrs. Uromta has clearly by her recent appropriate actions in the areas of settling some pending issues shown that her appointment has been well deserved and a testament to the ‘can do’ attitude of the Nigeria women. She noted particularly that Mrs. Uromta’s resolution of the ANLCA crisis which culminated in the election of a new and agreed board of trustees (BOT) for the apex freight forwarding association in Nigeria and which will also soon bring about a general election is quite commendable and should be emulated.

One should recall that the Council has over the years grappled with the various contending issues such as the tug of war between the freight forwarders and the shipping companies, their misunderstanding with the terminal operators, the problems of down times and the payment of demurrage on cargoes for an extended period of time and also such other matters as the squabbles among the various associations in the freight forwarding subsector. All these have seemingly been made as the areas of great attention by the new acting Registrar and this can been attested to by the Council organising a two-day workshop last week to properly examine the success and the impact of the collection of the Practitioners Operating Fee (POF).
Ms. Monije advises the acting Registrar to close the communication gap between her office and the freight forwarders in order to engender more collaborative efforts. She also appealed for the reduction of the three hundred and fifty thousand (#350,000.00) naira training fees charged for the training of freight forwarders as she says that the economic situation would not allow this amount to be affordable therefore seeks a downward review of the fee in order to have more freight forwarders register for the training since the minimum qualification for practicing freight forwarding now is a diploma in freight forwarding.
The PRO would also want the acting Registrar to publish the names of the freight forwarders who have be given their shares of the Practitioners Operating Fee (POF) since it has been confirmed that some people have been given part of the fee.
Ms Monije also advises that the acting Registrar should be steadfast in carrying out her good job at the Council as she says that she would love to see her made a permanent Registrar and wishes that more of qualified Nigeria women be given roles to play in the economic and political arenas of the nation.
