The recently conducted elections for the Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives positions in the Country are creating a whole lot of raucous as many Nigerians all over the country are disagreeing with the conduct and subsequent results of the elections.

In Delta State and specifically the Delta North Senatorial Zone, there were reported cases of electorial violence and irregularities that have given rise to calls for a recount or outright conduct of by-eletions in two local government areas of Ukwuani and Ika North East within the Senatorial Zone.

The latest calls for these actions to be taken come from the candidate of the Labour Party for the Delta North Senatorial seat, Mr. Kennedy Kanma. Mr Kanma who noted that “The people of the Delta North are becoming restive and angry because of what is perceived as daylight robbery, but they should remain calm and not resort to violence or take the law into their hands, but allow the law to take its course, we are going to fight this injustice every single way within the ambit of the law until we get victory, we will never allow their mandate to be stolen.”

The Labour Party candidate for the House of Representatives in Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency Dr. Gift Okwuolise and the candidate for the Ika North East to the Delta State House of Assembly Mr. Geoffrey Onyetiriukwu also affirmed that the elections in the areas were generally peaceful, but marred by irregularities and daylight manipulations especially in Ibrede and especially Uto Orkpu where ballot box snatching was recorded, even though the military personnel in the area later recovered the snatched box. The snatchers were working in favour of the People’s Democratic Party and they also alleged that the PDP agents in the areas wanted all other Party agents out of the voting centres in other to perfect their manipulations and asked for a recount of the votes in the area and the use of the data from the BVAS machines. They urged the people to remain calm inspite of all the anomalies as the law will take its course in their bid to regain the stolen mandate from the area.

It will be noted that an uneasy calm has enveloped most parts of the nation as soon as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Mr. Bola Tinubu the winner of the presidential election a few days ago and that most of the opposition parties have threatened to head to the courts to seek redress in what they termed “a rigged election”.
