It was a case of one being third time lucky as the Surulere constituency 1 primary election rerun of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took place yesterday at the Obele Odan Community centre, Fujah street Surulere, Lagos.
Mammy Y. Balami was the electoral officer from Abuja who took charge of the affairs as the four available contestants, Micheal Adewara, Thomas Akinkunmi, Olalemu Hakeem Olalekan and Bolaji Alani Jeje prepared themselves for the election.
Voting started at about 2.45pm with the 18 delegates casting their votes for their preferred candidates. Security was rather tight at the venue with police officers, the department of state security personnel and some members of the civil defence corps providing the needed security cover and ensuring the smooth running of the whole process.
At the end of it all, Thomas had no 0 votes, Olalekan had 5 votes, Olalemu got 6 votes while Jeje emerged the winner with 7 votes as his supporters went wild with joy and celebration.

In an interview with the winner, Mr. Bolaji Alani Jeje, he disclosed some interesting information about himself and his aspiration. Mr. Jeje said that he had first contested the position in 2006 and he came second then, in 2019 he also came second, but supported the winner then, but this rime around he said that he had to fast for the first time in his life before this election and that today, the hard work and committment has paid. Mr Jeje says that he is inspired by the lack of honesty in the system, the need to give good representation to the people, a desire to make sure that he tries to hold the government accountable at all times and the creation of opportunities for the youths to seek the position of a representative at the federal house of assembly. He also added that he is a full Surulere boy having been born and bread in Surulere with he and his parents still living there as against the man who currently represents the area. He added that his campaign starts vigorously so that he can unseat the incumbent.
Mr. Jeje said that people can now take advantage of the newly signed electoral act to get registered as their votes will count now more than ever before, he thanked president Buhari for that singular act and admonished everyone to step up and be counted during the elections.
