A human right activist and an investigative journalist
who has been following the developments regarding the defilement allegation against one Dr Femi Olaleye preferred against him by his estranged wife of 11 years, Aderemi Olaleye has called for caution on all sides. The activist pleads anonymity while sharing his intervention on the issue with the press.

He calls the attention of human rights groups who want speedy prosecution of the accused to study the protest letter written to the Lagos State attorney general and commissioner for justice by the accused person’s counsel.

One will recall that CAIDOV, a human rights group had called the attention of the Lagos State Police Commissioner to arrest Dr Femi Olaleye and prosecute him on the second advice offered by the DPP on the 17th of October 2022.

The activist said that a protest letter has been written by Olusegun Fabunmi (SAN) the counsel to the accused Dr Femi Olaleye on the second of November 2022 to the Lagos State Attorney General regarding the attempt of the Director of Public Prosecution to prosecute his client without the conclusion of investigation and the due process.

The Counsel to the accused is quoted as saying “To the utter shock of my client, the DPP issued another advice dated 17th October 2022, wherein he concluded that my client should be prosecuted for the offence of defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration”.

The activist noted, that “The Executive Director of CAIDOV Gbenga Soloki and other human rights activists leveraged on the second advice of the DPP without asking for the outcome of the investigation of the first advice that the DPP offered.

“Dr Femi Olaleye has presented the evidence requested by the DPP to the police command in his first advice. It is morally right for the OC of the legal department of DPP to request for the outcome of the investigation by the police before offering another advice”.

“This is my concern as an activist and a journalist and one that has been following the sequence of events within my space. I feel that he that calls for equity, must come with clean hands”.

“Having called the attention of whom it may concern to this information, I urge all human rights activists who want justice to be served in this case to study the protest letter written to the Commissioner of Justice in Lagos State so as to have a better grasp of the issue.

“I also appeal to them to exercise patience, so that the stakeholders handling the case can do their job without fear or favour”. He concluded.

Meanwhile, the Police in Lagos has said it is awaiting an updated advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP,  before prosecuting the suspect, Dr. Femi Olaleye over the allegation of defilement.

The Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP. Benjamin Hundeyin said this on Monday while speaking with Newsmen.

He confirmed that the DPP issued an advice but that it was inconclusive.

According to him, “The advice was “Go and do this and this. We have done that and we have submitted it to them and awaiting the response of that.”

“It was an advice to update our investigation which we have done, so we are awaiting their own updated advice too.”
