The trend in modern businesses as in many other human endeavours is to deploy the available digital tools in carrying out different functions. It is line with this trend that the authorities at the Tin Can Island chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) organised a training programme for members to acquaint themselves with the knowledge of the ways of doing their businesses and the relevant digital means of carrying them all out.

The public relations officer of the chapter, Ms Onome Monije while putting members through the training session about the rudiments of goods clearing at the Tin Can Island explained that one cannot call him or herself a licensed customs agent if the person cannot personally determine the amount of duty to pay on a particular item. She went on to explain how the duties are calculated. Furthermore, Ms. Monije admonished members to learn to download and use the relevant applications in order to make their job easier.

A number of the participants at the training expressed delight with the idea of bringing operators up to the relevant knowledge in the business of goods clearance as they thanked the organisers for the gesture.

In an interview with Ms. Monije after the training, she says that since manual ways of doings things within the system are become outdated, the need to train members has become imperative, hence this programme. She noted that though the attendance to the training has not been huge, but with suggestion that the training becomes a monthly affair, it is hoped that subsequently, more people will attend.
