The official rate charged on cargo imported by the Nigeria Customs Service has been increased from the naira equivalent of $409 to a new rate of $422.3 as indicated by the information made available to us.

A press release given to us by the public relations officer of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Tin Can Inland Command chapter, Onome Joy Monije indicated that this is now official. In order to prevent a violent reaction by members, the association deemed it necessary to educate members, hence the statement.

The new exchange rate.

The statement reads in full:
Good morning professional colleagues, it’s now official, that the exchange rate has been increased on the custom portal.

Let’s be guided in our transactions, please let it be on record, it’s not custom that control exchange rate, some of us are shouting blue murder, for what reason?.. honestly I can’t comprehend.

Our license is given to us by government to abide and adhere strictly with all government policy full stop. We can dialogue with our leaders to brainstorm on the procedures or policy which we think can be adjusted or amended with facts to enable them represent us with the Federal Government effectively.

At this point, I want to plead with our colleagues, to always be truthful and carry their clients along in their dealing to save us unnecessary stress, tension and high Blodd Pressure because some are having serious issues as a result of that.

As at Friday some have not paid duties in millions, but lied that they have done so, how do you reconcile the difference in hundreds today?

The world has gone digital, globally. Please let us upgrade ourselves intellectually, mentally and physically to overcome challenges.

The statement is meant to prepare the minds of members about the changing nature of their responsibilities and to be prepared to shoulder them properly according to Ms. Monije
