The economic downturn that has been occasioned by the prevalence of the Covid-19 pandemic all over the world seems not to be affecting the impact being made by the management of the Nigeria Customs Service especially at the Clarion terminal, Alakija, Lagos.

This is because the volume and value of goods that pass through the terminal continues to be on the increase. A look at the revenue generated through the terminal by the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service shows that between the month of June 2019 and May 2020, the total sum of Ten Billion, Three Hundred And Seventy Seven Million, Six hundred And Forty Five Thousand, Six Hundred And Fourteen Naira Naira (#10,377,645,614.00) only was realised while for the corresponding months of June 2020 to May 2021, a total sum of Seventeen Billion, Nine Hundred And Forty Four Million, Two Hundred And Forty Five Thousand, Four Hundred And Seventy Four Naira (#17,944,245,474.00) only was also realised. This shows an increase of Seven Billion, Five Hundred And Sixty Six Million, Five Hundred And Ninety Nine Thousand, Eight Hundred And Sixty Naira (#7,566,599,860.00) only over the period of one year of the the resumption of office by the officer in charge of the terminal, Deputy Controller of Customs, Mohammed Usman Bappa.

The unassuming, firm and hard working head of the terminal had earlier said that he tries as much as possible to relate with the needed sense of responsibility and cordiality with all stakeholders. This seems to be working well for him as is shown in the exponential increase in the amount of revenue generated as well as the single goods declaration at the terminal. He also commended his Customs Area Controller for his efforts in entrusting the terminal with regular amounts of goods to be cleared as he continued to appeal to all stakeholders to continue to follow the due process of importation and the clearing of goods.
