The stage is set for a period of church music in November as the popular Bishop Ajayi Crowther Memorial Anglican Church (BACMAC) choir aided by its parish and the Diocese of the Lagos West of the Anglican Communion organises the first African Church Music Convocation.
The BACMAC choir was at the African Choral and Gospel Championship (ACGC) in Kigali, Rwanda in March where they made very good representation of the country as well as being at the recently held African Choral Music Awards tagged “Africa Sings” in Lome, Togo.
The Church’s choir master and music director, Kelechi Agu disclosed that the first edition of the Church Music Convocation in Africa simply called the African Church Music Festival is scheduled to take place at the Caroline Adefiola Conference Centre at Ipaja between the 25th to the 27th of November 2022 with choirs coming in from Benin Republic, Togo, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Nigeria and with several dignitaries coming in from different parts of the world to participate in the event. He hopes that everyone who attends the event will be richly blessed and totally edified.
The vicar of the parish, Reverend Taiwo Olupitan in an interview said that “It is going to be a great time with the Lord with the music that will inspire and unite the body of Christ at the event”.
The Bishop of the Lagos West of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Bishop James Olushola Odedeji in an interview commended the choir master, Kelechi Agu as he said that the young man has carried on with the responsibilities that his late father had shouldered for the Church. Bishop Odedeji who was presented with a plaque of award recognising his role in the propagation of the gospel through music by the organisers of the African Choral Music Awards said that he will continue to do everything humanly possible to help the youth through Church Music to develope their talents in order to be positively engaged to be profitable, he expresses his happiness over the award and the activities of the young people in the Church.
Bishop Odedeji also added that music is generally a means of uplitment from psychological and emotional low and encourages people to continue to emulate the kind of support provided by sponsors such as Chief Ayo Jagun who has always been a pillar as far as support for musical and other activities in the Church are concerned.
On the African Church Music Convocation, he invites everyone to be there as it is going to be a very special one for everyone. Bishop Odedeji said that a lot of preparation has been put in place for the success of the event.
