The Musical Choir of the BIshop Ajayi Crowther Memorial Anglican Church (BACMAC) has set out a series of musical events that they intend to carry out as a follow up to the hugely successful Easter show titled the Crucifixion with the rendition of John Steiner’s music of the same title which took place at the Archbishop Vinning Memorial Church Cathedral, GRA Ikeja on the 27th of March this year, an event which also served as an appreciation concert for the BIshop.

The talented Choir which over the past few years has taken part in various musical competitions has gradually and steadfastly been carving a niche for itself as a group to be reckoned with.
The group was the only Choir from the Lagos West Anglican Diocese that participated in the 2020 edition of the Lagos State Choir Competition and also the only Church Choir represented in the launch of the 2020 African Choral and Gospel Championship. The group has participated and come tops at several Lagos West Anglican Diocese Choral music competitions.

The Choir has been ably supported by the parish head of the church, Venerable Taiwo Olupitan who has been very gracious in encouraging the young people who make up the bulk of the choir. The choir is headed by a very committed young musicologist, Kelechi Agu who is the choir master of the group and also serves as the music director of the parish.

According to the vibrant choir master, the events lined up for the rest of the year include the Anglican chants and hymns at the Anglican church of Ascension Opebi for the Trinity celebration on the 29th of May, a virtual concert for Chief Jagun’s birthday at AVMCC on the 26th of June, Independence Day music concert on the 2nd of October and again, preparation is also in top gear for the participation of the Choir in the African Choral and Gospel championship in South Africa later this year.

In the light of its performance at the various events and the Choir’s consistency over the years, Chief Jagun has pledged his support to the Choir and promised to purchase an organ worth about Fifteen Million Naira for the Choir and they are expected to have the organ over the next few months.
