Rt. Rev. James Olushola Odedeji, Bishop of the Lagos West Anglican Diocese.
Story by Dili Utomi.
All hands are on deck to make sure that the Bishop Ajayi Crowther Memorial Anglican Church (BACMAC) Choir gives Nigeria and the numerous lovers of music in the country a worthy representation at the African Choral and Gospel Championship (ACGC) in Kigali, Rwanda from the 23rd to the 28th of March 2022.
A statement from the choir says “Africa! Our great motherland, a continent filled with God’s blessings and abundance of human and natural resources eagerly awaits the conglomeration of the finest voices and instrumentalists at the Championship that holds later in the year”.
Ven. Taiwo Olupitan, Vicar, BACMAC.
BACMAC Choir, being a participant at the Inaugural meeting of the ACGC held in Accra, Ghana, has adequately made preparation for the Championship previously proposed for the Republic of South Africa. The change of events due to the COVID 19 Pandemic never negatively affected the BACMAC Choir and they never relented in their preparation for the championship knowing fully that this time, it will surely hold.
Now, the much awaited ACGC is coming, BACMAC Choir will be the first Choir in the Diocese of Lagos West (Anglican Communion) and the Church of Nigeria to participate in an international competition. The choir praises God Almighty for the strength He has given them and for the vision given to the Lord Bishop Rt. Rev. (Dr) and his wife, (Dr) Mrs James Olusola Odedeji, who have been pillars of great support for the choir. The provision and labour of a shepherd over the sheep is of great significance, the efforts of the vicar and his wife, Ven. and Mrs Taiwo Olupitan since he was informed of the choir’s desire to participate at the ACGC has been tremendous. The Music Director, Mr Kelechi Agu, has also made sure that the finest of songs are going to be sung and that the finest vocalists are made fit for the championship.
Kelechi Agu, Choir Master and Music Director, BACMAC.
The choir says that “We go not in our strength, for we know that our steps are continuously being ordered by God, and with Him, we do great things”. They are also appealing for the support of church members, lovers of church music and the general public to make this a successful and memorable Championship.
