The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service is solidly upholding its role as the Command to the premier Port and business gateway to the country.

The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Malanta Yusuf in a press briefing revealed a humongous amount of revenue generated over the past 12 months. CAC Yusuf noted that “The year 2022 was characterised with several challenges in the economic and trade supply chain, however, the Command was able to make some laudable achievements using technology-driven iniatiative to maximise revenue collection”.

The Command head also revealed that “In the area of trade facilitation, officers have been selected, trained and dedicated to addressing complaints through dispute resolutions”.

CAC Yusuf declared that a total of One Trillion, Twenty Two Billion, Five Hundred and Thirty Million, Five Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety Nine Naira, Four Kobo (#1,022,530,523,699.04) was made as revenue in the out gone year of 2022. This is 16.07% higher revenue generated against the Eight Hundred and Seventy Billion, Three Hundred and Eighty Eight Million, Three Hundred and Forty Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty Naira, Sixty Five Kobo (#870,388,340,650.65) generated in 2021.

He also added that a total of 157 containers with a Duty paid value (DPV) of #14.4 Billion were seized under the year against the 102 containers with the duty paid value (DPV) of #31.8 Billion seized in 2021.

The CAC listed items seized over the period as Tramadol, parboiled rice, codeine syrup, vegetable oil, processed/unprocessed wood and used clothes and that over 60 suspects were arrested over the period with some of them undergoing different degrees of prosecution by the relevant agencies.

CAC Yusuf said that the export through the Port yielded $68.5 million free on board (FOB) value with the equivalent of #28.2 of non-oil commodities and with a tonnage of 6.4 million metric tonnes.

He added that inter-agency cooperation has made the achieved success possible as he commended the press as well as the Comptroller General of Customs for his support and encouragement.
