The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) today conducted the election for executive positions in the Apapa chapter of the association. Nonso Ejikeme who is the National Electoral Commission (NECOM) chairman for the association in an interview with pressmen at the NAGAFF national secretariat venue of the election said that modalities were already in place for a smooth and credible election and that since NAGAFF is an association that values quality people with sound educational background, he expected a very peaceful conduct from the voters who he described as reasonable and professional in conduct.

The election started promptly around 10.00am with voters moving into the voting area after proper accreditation to cast their ballots. We had chats with some of the contestants as they waited for their turns to vote and be voted for and they aired their views on several aspects of the election, the association and the freight forwarding profession.

Hilda Oyanna who contested as the secretary of the chapter promised to work as a team player and to be as professional in her duty as possible. Prince Eze Uchendu who contested for the position of the chairman of the chapter promised to bring about a sustainable professional freight forwarding practice at the chapter and also to map out a strategy to bridge the gap between the chapter members and the various government security agencies at the port and terminals. Emeka Obinalu who contested as the vice chairman of the chapter indicated that he is willing to help the chairman give an efficient and visionary leadership to the chapter of the association and to carry out any other function given to him in a professional manner. Chukwuemeka Ikeobi who contested as the financial secretary said that as a computer engineer, he will make sure that all the modern methods of properly keeping account of the finances of the chapter including using the latest accounting software applications that can be applied will be used and that he will strive to always make sure that the chapter’s account is always in a healthy state. Also, Nelly ijeoma who contested as a welfare officer said that apart from the traditional role of making sure that she sees to the welfare of the chapter members, she could also interface in helping members to get businesses.

The president of the association, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi on his own part said that he hopes that the election ends up as a most peaceful and credible election as everything was going on rather smoothly. He also hopes to get a good working team in the chapter to help make his job much easier.

The election took place without any form of unwanted incident as the members of the electoral team made sure that everybody including voters and candidates were kept outside the compound and only allowed in when one was ready to be accredited and vote. Only Journalists were allowed into the compound to monitor the whole process.

At the end of the excercise, these persons emerged as officers of the chapter,
Chairman, Prince Eze Uchendu, vice chairman, Emeka Obinalu, Hilda Oyanna as secretary, Chigozie Arinze Okpala as assistant secretary, Chukwuemeka Ikeobi as financial secretary, Desmond Ugwu as treasurer, Adebayo Egunjobi as the Customs Freight Forwarders Relationship Officer, Francis Onwuchekwa as the public relations officer, Nelly Ijeoma as the welfare officer, Mustapha Musa Usman as the presidential liaison officer, Omotayo Samuel as the ethics and compliance officer, Afam Ifeanyi as the inspectorate and discipline officer.

The jubilant winners thereafter moved with their hired brass band while singing with joy to the office of the 100% compliance team about a kilometre away.
