The immediate past President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF); Chief Increase Uche has reportedly threatened to deal with a Shipping Position Daily reporter; Mr Oluyinka Onigbinde over a report in which he was alleged to have recently betrayed freight forwarders at a meeting with the National Assembly members in Abuja.

Chief Increase Uche, former NAGAFF President.

One should recall that the Vice President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Dr. Kayode Farinto, had in a press briefing alleged that the former National President of NAGAFF betrayed other freight forwarding practitioners for pecuniary gains from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) by stating that freight forwarders are known for falsifying documents.

However, as the ethics of journalism demand, the reporter had decided to give Chief Uche, a fair hearing by getting his reaction to the allegation about what actually transpired at the National Assembly.

Following the report, which generated varying industry stakeholders’ reactions, the former NAGAFF President on Monday threatened to deal with and beat up the correspondent for exposing his secrets as Chief Uche found the story rather unpalatable.

In a telephone call to Mr. Onihgbinde, the former NAGAFF President threatened to deal with and beat him up, this is even as he was said to have hurled several abuses on the reporter as Chief Uche equally abused Mr. Onigbinde’s father and resorted to unprintable name-calling.

Apparently referring to the allegation from the ANLCA Vice President, the erstwhile NAGAFF President who was recently removed from office by his Association told the reporter and said “I saw your report as you decided to still favour your brother Kayode Farinto, I know how to deal with you and I will beat you up”.

The job of a journalist is looking rather more untenable by the day these days as cases of threat to the lives of journalists are taking alarming dimensions, a Vanguard reporter in Abuja has recently been missing and as we report this particular incident, his colleagues in the capital city are protesting his disappearance.
